About Abercorn

Mary Fairbairn has owned and managed two Edinburgh Cemeteries for 32 years. She heads a dedicated team who have the interest of the patrons at heart. Main duties being taking care of all kinds of maintenance of the 30 acres of ground, booking in and carrying out funerals, keeping the register up to date and the maps in good condition.

Having had contact with bereaved families over the many years and having studied for a Certificate in Counselling, Mary believed there was space for an alternative in the way funerals are arranged and carried out.
Giving a calm, relaxed and homely atmosphere and providing modern hearses are the initial visible differences to other funeral directors services. Without loss of dignity or professionalism, arrangements are made by encouraging personal input and requests. Traditional services and vehicles are available but the important thing is having the choice of an alternative.

Mary has run the memorials business with the support of a committed team of staff who take pride in providing an important and unique service in Edinburgh, for their customers. Our suppliers supply personal designs and inscriptions which illustrate the interests and hobbies of the people whose lives are commemorated by the memorials we supply. Memorials can be viewed and checked along every step of the process as they are produced in our workshop which is on the premises at Piersfield Terrace, Edinburgh. We have the biggest display site in Scotland with over 130 memorials on view and we carry at least the same number in stock. Once ordered, if the memorial is held in stock it can be completed and erected in 2-3 weeks. ABERCORN are members of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise and Mary is the President of the Scottish branch of Monumental Masons. We were runners up in the Small Business 'Evening News' Business Excellence awards and are Scottish Regional winners of FSB Small Business awards 2003.
